We watched romance movies from the 1990’s to the early 2010’s aimed at audiences of different ages. Our focus was to look at the portrayal of the class system in these movies. Each of these movies has a representation of the rich and poor character who fall in love by the end of the movie, and we found that these movies rely on a series of the same narrative and character tropes. This project analyzes the different types of class disparity barriers and how they are portrayed in the romance media we grew up with and why these tropes persist in our time.
